What We Do

We specialize in taking the complexity of your financial life and organizing it into easy-to-understand points.

Wealth Management Services

Serving as your Financial Advisor means that we make a plan for your money to help you accomplish your life goals.

We develop strong, personal relationships with our clients to help you discover what is most important to you and what you want your future to look like.  Then we go through a complete review of your current finances to assess where you are.

This review covers a variety of topics, such as:

  • Financial Goals
  • Cash Flow
  • Investment Analysis
  • Financial Statement
  • Debt Management
  • Workplace Benefits
  • Education Savings
  • Health Insurance
  • Home & Auto Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Disablity Insurance
  • Estate Planning
  • Tax Planning
  • Retirement Planning
  • Equity Compensation
  • Long Term Care Insurance
  • Business Planning

Once the plan is in place…

When we’ve developed our plan, we build an investment portfolio to help you accomplish that plan.  We’ll open accounts for you at Schwab and use sophisticated software to invest, monitor, rebalance, and tax-loss harvest your portfolio.

When the plan is in place, we monitor it closely.  Our plan is our best guess on the future, but we know that when life happens the plan will need to adjust.  We’re ready for that and work closely with you to keep you on track.

We don’t sell any products and don’t earn commission on any of our recommendations.  Every dollar that comes into Avant Financial Advisors is paid directly by clients.  And everyone receives a receipt so you know exactly what you paid for the services you received.  We charge a percentage of the assets that we invest for you according to the table below.

Assets Under ManagementAnnual Advisory Fee Tier
First $1 million1.00%
Next $2 million ($1 million to $3 million)0.75%
Amount above $3 million0.50%

Fees are billed quarterly in advance, and are generally debited from the investment accounts.  Note there is a minimum quarterly fee of $900 – $2,400, depending on your complexity and needs.

We can’t wait to start building your plan with you!

Investment Philosophy

We invest based on Modern Portfolio Theory.  The following are some of the basic tenets of Modern Portfolio Theory:

Markets are efficient.

The market as a whole knows all information about a company, and reacts instantaneously to any new information. Therefore it is virtually impossible to predict the future direction of the market as a whole or any individual security. Current market prices are fair based on available information.

See the big picture.

The design of the portfolio as a whole is more important than the selection of any particular security within the portfolio. The appropriate allocation of capital among asset classes will have far more influence on long-term portfolio performance than the selection of individual securities.

Investors are risk averse.

Investing in the market involves risk. Different types of investments have different levels of risk. An investor will take on more risk only if they are expecting a higher return as compensation for that risk.

Diversification is key.

Portfolio risk can be decreased by diversifying the portfolio across multiple investments. Different types of investments behave differently in the market, so diversification is accomplished by owning several investments that behave differently from each other.

Equities can pay off.

Equities offer the potential for higher long-term investment returns than cash or fixed income investments.  Investors seeking a higher return in their portfolio should allocate a higher percentage of it towards equities and accept the volatility that comes with equities.
