XYPN Live Conference

XYPN Live Conference

The problem with a lot of financial advisors is that they only work with wealthy people. This usually means someone in their late 50s or early 60s and thinking about retirement. They have already saved up a large nest egg and want advice on when they can retire and how to make that transition.

This is a great demographic, who I work with extensively, and this group definitely needs wise advice.  But what about people in their 20s and 30s who are starting new careers, getting married, having kids, buying a house, paying off debt, and needing to save for retirement? This age group is making the biggest decisions of their lives, yet most advisors don’t want to help because the investment accounts are not big enough yet for there to be a profit. This is the reason why XY Planning Network (XYPN) was formed, to help advisors serve this unique client niche.

One of the many reasons I wanted to start my own business was so I could serve a variety of clients. I knew that XYPN would be a great networking resource as I launched my own firm. We agree on serving clients as a fiduciary, with fee-only (no commission) compensation, and we believe in the value of the CFP certification. XYPN is also a great resource for compliance and software to run my firm.

In the network, I have a small group of other advisors that I regularly talk to about the best way to serve clients and the best way to run our firms. These guys are all over the country, are at different stages of building their businesses, and run their firms in different ways. I love these connections to be able to bounce ideas around and talk about what has worked and what hasn’t.

I’m excited to be spending this week in St. Louis at the XYPN Live conference. It’s a great week connecting with so many different planners and gaining new knowledge to bring home to my clients. And honestly, it’s the most fun conference out of the many that I go to. Check out the City Museum next time you’re in St. Louis! It’s where we had our closing party last night. We definitely need one of these in Austin.

I hope you’re having a great week! I’m excited to share what I’ve learned when I get back.
